Dancing experience

About Tom...
Tom’s background is in music having played clarinet and piano from an early age. He had planned a career in music auditioning for the Royal Manchester College of Music but subsequently chose a different career path.
He now brings this grounding in music to his chosen career of dance, placing considerable emphasis on musical interpretation and phrasing. The possibilities of musical expression embodied in the improvisational nature of Tango provide one of the main reasons why this is now his preferred dance form.

Tom has been dancing and teaching for most of his adult life with the last 11 years being devoted to Argentine Tango. Early training in other dance forms have laid the foundation for what he does now. In the past, he has been privileged to be taught by some of the great masters of the dance world and more recently has had regular lessons with Leonardo and Bridget of Tango Fandango, two of the best teachers and dancers of Argentine Tango currently in the UK. He is continually seeking to improve himself and believe vehemently in the maxim that "you are never so good that you cannot continue to learn."

His experiences with the above masters of movement have led him to understand in detail how the body moves and the impact that incorrect balance and the lack of co-ordination between foot and body mass can have. His teaching is analytical and thorough and he is able to precisely pinpoint why a couple are having problems with a movement they are trying to perfect. The solution may not be easy, but to have an understanding is to be half way to solving the problem!
